Museum

A visit to Tellus Science Museum will educate, inspire, and engage adults and children with science through collections, hands-on/minds-on experiences and Georgia connections.

AboutWELCOME TO THE TELLUS SCIENCE MUSEUM!

  Tellus is a world-class, 120,00 square foot science museum located just off I-75 at Exit 293. The museum excites visitors with amazing exhibits while opening minds and igniting a passion for science.  Tellus features four main galleries:  Weinman Mineral Gallery, Fossil Gallery, Science in Motion and Collins Family My Big Backyard.  A digital planetarium and an observatory are also located at Tellus.

WEIMAN MINERAL GALLERY

Discover how the Earth was formed billions of years ago and walk among hundreds of beautiful gems and minerals in the Weinman Mineral Gallery.  Featured exhibits include over 50 cases of gems, gold, and some of the world's most prized minerals.

FOSSIL GALLERY

Stare into the jaws of a Tyrannosaurus rex, catch a glimpse of a saber-tooth cat, and discover how life on Earth began in the Fossil Gallery.  This walk through billions of years of history takes visitors past skeletons of dinosaurs, reptiles and mammals of all shapes and sizes that dominated the land sea and air.

SCIENCE IN MOTION

Take a stroll through history and discover the early break-troughs in automobile manufacturing electric, steam and gasoline-powered cars.  A special portion of the gallery is dedicated to the men who first traveled into space.  A replica Appollo I capsule, a Bell-47 helicopter and a replica of the Wright Flyer are all on display in the Science in Motion Gallery.

COLLINS FAMILY MY BIG BACKYARD

The world of science is every child's play ground in the Collins Family My Big Backyard!  Youngsters can experiment with light, rainbows, mirrors and more in the greenhouse.  the shed is filled with sound experiments, and the garage is a great place to discover the properties of magnets and electricity.  Visitors will encounter inventions that will inspire everyone, from the littlest scientist to the most seasoned of experimenters.

PLANETARIUM

Grab a seat, lean back and take an incredible ride in the Tellus planetarium.  The digital projector allows you to travel through our solar system, to the edge of the galaxy and beyond.  Adults and children of all ages will enjoy this unique experience.  Planetarium shows run every 45 minutes beginning at 11:00 am on weekdays and 10:15 am on weekends.

FOSSIL DIG AND GEM PANNING

Become a paleontologist in the Fossil dig.  Uncover the bones of ancient creatures and then select your favorite fossil to take with you.  Next, relive the old days of mining! You never know what you will discover in the gem panning area. Pan for gems  and fill your bag with treasures to take home.
