East Towne Cinemas has a long history in Gilmer County. Opening in the 1980s, the twin cinema has been a home for family entertainment for more than 20 years. The theater has had only three owners in it's history, but due to the economic downturn the little cinema was about to be shut down. In 2009, Jeremy and Hannah Towns forming Tinsel Towns, Inc. decided to purchase the theater. Both are movie buffs who watched movies at the theater every Sunday evening with their family and thought that it would be horrible to see an Ellijay landmark close it's doors.
East Towne Cinemas has now been restored to it's previous glory. More variety in the concession stand as well as movie selection. Projector and sound equipment has been upgraded. Many things have changed at the theater, but one old fashioned value has remained the same - customer service. East Towne tries to go above and beyond the normal movie experience, offering private VIP rooms, special birthday parties, midnight shows and community involvement.
