61 Main represents the latest trend in dining, Farm-to-table. To us, it is much more than just a phase of what diners are looking for, but a commitment to the community and environment. We have opened our doors with a simple philosophy: utilization of local and seasonal ingredients, cooking with familiar southern techniques, and providing a comforting atmosphere to enjoy the dining experience!
As the chef/owner, I felt it was time to introduce this responsible way of dining to our area. After five years of working as a private chef and eight years of living and cooking professionally in Charleston, South Carolina, my husband and I were ready to settle somewhere and begin growing some roots! We landed in such a beautiful and bountiful area that we could not resist the development of this restaurant concept in Jasper, Georgia. During my time as a private chef, I was exposed first hand to the farm-to-table concept and quickly fell in love with having produce straight from field to the kitchen. Nothing beats the flavor of products that are grown and picked by our farming friends, then prepared with respect to the natural state of the ingredient. These components build such unique dishes and make each experience new and exciting. Our friends and families dedication and labor of love to our project has made all of this a reality.
Our restaurants home is situated in an interesting historic corner building on Main Street and is central to the thriving farms and businesses. We strive to provide the City of Jasper and surrounding areas with a place to meet, eat, and enjoy time with each other while supporting local farmers and other food related businesses. 61 Main uses food and drink as an educational means of how to cook fresh and local with a healthy twist. We currently have daily drop-offs from many local farms and are discovering more each week. Dig It Farm is located right here in Jasper and our friends Kip & Michelle Foster along with their two sons have made my job as the chef so exciting. They are growing a large amount of our gorgeous produce and provide us with so much variety making it a challenge for the 61 kitchen to keep up with them. Whitestone Farm, operated by Russell and Christina Cutts are also providing us with year round produce and have recently achieved organic certification. They have committed themselves to good living through good food and have been helpful at bridging the gap between 61 Main and other farmers. Their farm is located on a gem of a property in Talking Rock exhibited in the photography on the walls of our restaurant. A good friend of 61 took the pictures and another custom designed the reclaimed barn wood frames. The 61 Main signature blend of coffee is roasted weekly by Foggy Hollow Coffee Roasters. Dave and Patti Raygor provide us with the smoothest drinking cup of coffee one could ever want! Throughout our first year of operation, we have formed relationships with many other farmers, ranchers, dairies, and local artisans and will continue to keep the customer informed as to where the items on our menu originate.
We are always open to comments, questions, and suggestions, so please do not hesitate to ask to speak with the chef. You are the key ingredient to what we can cook up at 61 Main!
