January and February Classes and Events

We will resume the loom workshops on the Stone Mountain Alpaca looms. Don and Penny will be here on Saturday February 25th and March 24th for a 10am to 4pm workshop. If you decide you want to purchase a loom from Don and Penny they will have them to sell directly to you. Call and schedule for one of the up-coming workshops. The workshop fee is $20 plus the cost of the yarn of your choice for your project. If you don’t decide weaving is for you, you will have a beautiful triangular scarf that you will finish in the workshop!
New spring/summer yarns will begin to arrive in late January into February. There will be new models for some of the yarns and new “Ruffle scarf yarns” for more of those fun scarves that so many of you enjoyed in 2011. Come in and see the excitement!
Darlene will be doing a one day class on Friday 2/17 from1-3pm . This will be phase one Finishing Class. Learn all you need to do basic finishing. Bring needles and tools. Pick up a skein of worsted yarn at S&S for the class and you are set to go. $15
Karen will start a series on modular knitting the month of February. The first in the series will be Mitered squares. You can do any mitered pattern you have or choose. Karen did the Celia’s Blankie in Encore with the ruffle for a baby girl. If you want to do it, the pattern gives you three options for the edging. Fun pattern and I will repeat it again. This class will be a quickie…I will teach the technique and send you on your way. If you need further help, we will do it with the hourly class rate of $5 per hour. Initial class will be Tuesday 2/7 from 1-3pm for $15. Follow up classes in the series will be entrelac, modular knitting, log cabin, etc. So come join the fun and let’s learn some new techniques. New series will be planned to follow the modular series. I am thinking about colorworks, but if you have a preference just let me know.
Monthly classes
Beginning Knit: Learn the fundamentals: knit, purl, cast on & bind off. 4-week series $30 + supplies
Wednesdays 10:30-12noon
Thursdays 5:30-7pm
Saturdays 10:30-12noon
Students will make a scarf in this class.
Basic Socks: Learn the basic architecture of a sock. If you can knit, purl, SSK, K2TOG and pick up stitches, you are ready for the basic sock classes. In this class, you will finish a pair of socks. Karen teaches this class on Tuesday mornings 10-12 and the class lasts for 4 weeks. Class fee is $40.
Knitting Beyond the Basics: This is your next step with advanced beginner classes. Come join either a weekday class or Saturday class. You will learn techniques based on your skill level and do a project related to the techniques you are learning. Your choice! These include cables, increases & decreases, pattern reading, and others. Fun learning environment and classes.

Basic Crochet: Private classes @ your time. Call to schedule. Private rates are $10/hour, with reduction for multiple students.
Pick a Project: Got a project you want to do but need help getting through it? Want to stretch your skills but need a little “hand holding”? Can’t schedule a class you want due to the time it is scheduled? This is the class for you. Just sign up and come in and consult with us about your options. Monthly class rate of $40 for the 4 weeks. Held on Fridays. from 2-4pm. $40
As always, supplies must be purchased from Strings & Stitches for the class projects. Please call early to schedule. Registration confirmed with paid class fees. Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance for store credit for the class fees. No refund or credits on class fees.
